Founded in 1931, the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind focuses on improving and enhancing the lives and opportunities of the visually impaired in North Texas.
The Dallas Lighthouse has assisted thousands of individuals in its over 75 years of service, offering a solid foundation for enhancing visually impaired individuals’ independence by providing jobs and job training.
Our training in adaptive business skills provides enhanced upward mobility opportunities for employment in a variety of office environments. Our Industrial & Sewing Centers train and employ more than 150 individuals, manufacturing high quality products for military, federal, state and commercial customers.
There are approximately 42,000 blind or visually impaired individuals living in the North Texas region according to the most recent U.S. Census data. More than 50% of those individuals are seeking gainful employment and a chance to live a productive and independent life.
The Dallas Lighthouse clients have an 85% job retention rate, 60% higher than the national average for the visually impaired. Individuals who go through our training programs not only learn job skills, but develop a strong work ethic too.
Our guiding principle is the belief that with knowledge, training and motivation, people who are visually impaired can succeed and thrive in any workplace, live productive and meaningful lives, and be important contributors to their communities.
